VisitScotland launches new online newsroom to promote over 900 events across Scotland
VisitScotland launches new all-in-one brand newsroom and multimedia public relations platform. Scotland’s national tourism organisation has partnered with PR technology pioneer, Mynewsdesk, to better support their corporate and consumer PR service for UK and international journalists.
With its main aim to maximise the economic benefit of tourism to Scotland, VisitScotland has made the decision to invest in newsroom technology. This enhances its PR efforts and streamlines its communications activities which focus heavily on written and multimedia content including images and videos. This comes at a time when Scotland is playing host to a number of international sporting and cultural events including the Edinburgh Fringe, the Ryder Cup and Homecoming 2014.
The Mynewsdesk newsroom will not only help VisitScotland to build better relationships with the media but will provide those visiting, or considering visiting Scotland, with the latest information and inspiration to get the most out of their stay. The analytics tool will also help the communications team to measure the effectiveness of this content and gain insight into what formats work best with their various target audiences.
Peter Britten, UK Managing Director at Mynewsdesk, said, “The eyes of the world are drawn to Scotland this year as they host not only the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup but over 900 other events in an unforgettable celebration of contemporary art, literature, sport and music as part of Homecoming 2014. This presents the communications team at VisitScotland with the tremendous challenge of keeping the media, tourists, potential visitors, key stakeholders and the Scottish people up to date with the latest information on the vast amount of happenings taking place across the country. No mean feat! Their newsroom enables VisitScotland to more efficiently communicate these stories to its diverse range of stakeholders by simultaneously posting to all of its relevant social media channels, emailing their distribution lists and updating their website via the newsroom, at the click of a button. Therefore, helping the VisitScotland team to overcome this challenge.”
Barbara Clark, Head of Corporate Communications at VisitScotland, said, “The tourism industry brings in approximately £11 billion annually to the economy and supports around 10 per cent of employment in Scotland. Our job at VisitScotland is to ensure that this industry continues to grow by best communicating all of the events and happenings in Scotland to the media, key stakeholders and the rest of the world. The responsively designed Mynewsdesk newsroom helps us do this as it is the perfect place to showcase all of our press releases, blogs, videos and images alongside feeds from our social media channels including Flickr, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. This means visitors to our site are greeted with a whole host of interesting and visually stimulating content about what’s happening in Scotland in one central hub no matter what device they are using.”
