FutureComms15: 5 Minutes With Zoe Clapp

Zoe Clapp, Communications Director of the multi award-winning UKTV, gives us a few teasers about her upcoming presentation at FutureComms15...

1. What are the key themes of your talk at this year's FutureComms?

It’s about the digitalisation of the broadcast industry and how that has altered consumer communications in quite an exciting way. My talk will be very tactical and hopefully therefore, quite useful for delegates who are working online.

2. Why have you chosen to discuss these areas?

Digital media is really exciting because it’s so immediate, measurable and fast-moving. It’s a wonderful wild west where your actions and campaigns have immediate impact and where we can learn constantly.

3. Whose talk/s are you most looking forward to and why?

It’s a great line-up but I’m a big David Schneider fan so I’m really looking forward to the end session.

4. Would you say PR is dead?

The stuff that public relations practitioners do isn’t dead at all, in fact it’s never been so popular. Influencer relations, publicity stunts, content creation and brand storytelling are all the stuff of the PR machine. These practises work best when driven by brilliant and collaborative communications teams.

5. What are your views on the current state of PR & content?

The rise of paid media in the communications industry is a fantastic game-changer. It makes our playing field so much bigger and gives opportunities for collaboration with marketing teams who are losing the desire to disrupt and getting onto our wavelength with clever editorial and compelling content.

#WeArePR: Building a picture of the modern communicator

For an industry so involved in helping organisations establish identity, the marketing world is going through a fascinating crisis. Yet, for all the furore and panic, the world keeps spinning. We thought it was time someone went out there and started to build a picture that reflected the variety and range of this world in a different way.

Futurecomms15: PR’s Stockdale Paradox

Over the years I've come to see that healthy debate stimulates progress and change. Last week I had the pleasure of chairing Mynewsdesk’s Futurecomms15 in London and the outcome was a good argument. I am tired of events that are just filled of corporate case studies and self congratulatory awards. I guess there is a place for those type of events but this was certainly not one of them...

FutureComms15: A Look Back At The Future Of Comms

Fiery, opinionated, controversial and moving are just a handful of adjectives that one might choose to use when describing FutureComms15 - the biggest PR and comms event of the year. But personally, I think it was Dan Slee of Comms2point0 who best summed up the gathering, describing it as “a mass punch-up between people who give a stuff…”. We take a look back at the future of comms...
