5 Valentine's Day Campaigns We Heart

Valentine’s day. You know the deal: discounted chocolates, set meals for two and roses... everywhere! New year, same old story. But we’re Mynewsdesk and we like different. We like those who think outside the box when it comes to capturing the hearts of audiences. So without further ado, here are the best of the 2017 Valentine’s Day bunch...

Ted Baker - LovebitesScreen Shot 2017-02-13 at 09.10.38.png

Ted Baker has been teasing us this year with an online game of temptation. They’ve set up an interactive game to test your desire for their accessories. The aim of the game is to grab the prizes from the jaws of three love-rivals (in the form of chattering teeth) as quickly as possible. The best score gets £1,000 to spend in their stores.

Audience engagement and product promotion all rolled into one - nice. Pucker up!

Omaze’s Valentine’s Date With Idris ElbaScreen Shot 2017-02-13 at 09.16.07.png

Whether he’s Stringer Bell or DCI John Luther there’s just no denying that Idris Elba is one the hottest talents (and most handsome men!) in Hollywood. So just how far would you go for a shot at a Valentine’s Day date with the man himself?

Omaze is making this all possible in return for donations towards not-for-profit W.E Can Lead. Raising funds for a charity that is committed to ensuring educational opportunities for young girls AND the chance to wine and dine with Idris - a winning combo, that’s for sure.

Not only does the campaign have a dedicated page on Omaze’s website but it’s also being shared across social media with endorsements from Idris Elba himself. Now where did I put my wallet……?

Lush’s #loveislovelush.jpg

With all the acrimony across the pond, Lush’s Valentine’s campaign comes as a welcome refresher showing that, you know what, there is a whole lot of good and love in the world!

The cosmetic brand’s new product launch features same-sex couples, with images from the campaign across social using the hashtag #loveislove. The campaign also coincides with the global #womensmarch. Now we just need someone to throw a bath-bomb at Trump….to spread the love, of course! (all views my own)

Domino’s Wedding RegistryScreen Shot 2017-02-13 at 13.25.21.png

A couple of years ago a friend (it was definitely a friend...) was swiping through Tinder and a juicy Texas BBQ popped up. It was Valentine’s day and Dominos was taking full advantage of the singleton’s lacklustre plans for the special day. Anyway, I was keen to see what Dominos would pull out the box this year and needless to say, they’ve delivered!

Domino’s wedding registry invites guests of upcoming weddings to share a “pizza” happiness in the form of cheese topped dough! Friends and relatives can send eGift cards with pizza packages for almost any wedding or date related occasion. Pizza packages include “The Wedding Night”, “Bachelor Party Feast” and “One More Slice Before I Do”.

My favourite part of the campaign? This quote: “Thank’s Domino’s, for giving me a reason to get married...besides love, of course". Priceless.

Deadpool's RomCom Cover-Up

OK so this campaign was last year but oh well. Deadpool, a bullet-spraying, gut-punching, rib-tickler of an action film came out this time last year. In the build up to its release, the team behind the production cheekily and sarcastically framed the film as a soppy romance, perfect for couples, in a series of mock-trailers, clips and posters across the world. Grossing over $130m on its opening weekend, it’s fair to say this stunt paid off.

So there we have it, the favourite 5 Valentine’s Day campaigns of a man who doesn’t even like the darn day!

Inspiring Women In PR & Comms

During my two and a bit years here at Mynewsdesk, I've had the honour of working alongside and in collaboration with some of the industry's most brilliant women - each of them inspiring me and teaching us all something new. But despite the sheer volume of smart and successful women in PR, still we see male dominated panels, hosts and keynotes. And that, to say the least, is pretty frustrating.
