Who is the UK's most influential journalist on social media?

Mynewsdesk are sponsoring Press Gazette's second Social Media Journalism Award to find the UK's Most Influential Journalist on Social Media, which has launched today.

The award aims to recognise the individual journalists who use social media well and will result in the ultimate list of must-follow UK journalists on Twitter and other social media channels.

The top-50 journalists who have made the most impact will be decided by:

  • Reader votes (on Twitter using the hashtag #smj_influence)
  • The votes by an expert judging panel
  • And by counting up journalists' followers on Twitter, Google+ and Facebook.

Adam Cranfield, Head of Marketing at Mynewsdesk said, "We're delighted to support the Press Gazette in their efforts to recognise the journalists who have made the most impact on social media and bring people closer to breaking news stories around the world in a way publications and traditional media channels never could. These people are fundamentally leading the way for the future of digital media and communications."

The top-50 list of most influential journalists on social media will be revealed at a drinks reception on 24th June at the offices of Press Gazette's parent company Progressive Media, off Fleet Street, from 6.30-8pm.

Register here if you're interested in attending.

The Social Media Journalism Awards judges are:

  • Matt Cooke: Former BBC journalist now Google product marketing managing
  • Gordon MacMillan: Former editor of Brand Republic, now editorial manager for Twitter
  • Jon Bernstein: Digital journalism consultant, editor and trainer. Former deputy editor and digital director of New Statesman, ex multimedia editor for Channel 4 News
  • Paul Bradshaw: Founder of the Online Journalism Blog and head of the MA in online journalism at Birmingham University
