"Comms is changing...but don’t believe the hype" - Rica Squires | #FC16

With over twenty years in marketing communications for companies including Visa and Shazam, when it comes to PR and comms, Rica Squires knows a thing or two!

A confirmed speaker for FutureComms16, Visa's Technology PR Manager shares her thoughts ahead of the event...

Comms is changing...but don’t believe the hype

If I’ve noticed one thing in all the “trend” conferences I’ve been to in the last 5 years, it’s that it’s easy to get distracted and overwhelmed by the multitude of channels that we as PR practitioners have at our disposal. We focus too much on how we’re talking to our audiences and not enough about what we’re saying.

How to create cutting content...

I'll be discussing the types of content creation that can really cut through the clutter and raise your corporate profile, as well as increasing content longevity and how to create a multi-national communications environment.

The future of comms...

Is metrics - I think that the importance of metrics can’t be overstated enough. Being able to tie PR to business objectives and show how communications is moving the needle will continue to grow in importance.

The payments industry needs to keep up...

The payments industry has been incredibly insular, focused on a handful of industry verticals (banking and retail, primarily). With the rise of the Internet of Things and new players who will enter this industry – or at least, overlap this industry – it’s critical that we look at where they are, what they are reading, who their influencers are, etc, so that we understand their issues and can communicate with them on their terms.

Inspiring Women In PR & Comms

During my two and a bit years here at Mynewsdesk, I've had the honour of working alongside and in collaboration with some of the industry's most brilliant women - each of them inspiring me and teaching us all something new. But despite the sheer volume of smart and successful women in PR, still we see male dominated panels, hosts and keynotes. And that, to say the least, is pretty frustrating.
